Throughout the 2016 election, during which the media industry itself became a prominent storyline, several hundred news professionals aligned themselves with Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump by personally donating money to one or the other.

While on the campaign trail, Trump cited a Center for Public Integrity report on journalists’ donations to the candidates.
