Our latest explanatory enterprise story dives deep into how Medicaid expansion has affected two rural Black communities miles away from one another in neighboring states. Poverty as a result of decisions made at the local, state and national levels has been a decades-long challenge in these communities. Expanding Medicaid would help close the health insurance gap that disproportionately affects communities of color — and it would help create jobs and support the local economy.

But our work doesn’t stop there. We want to spread the word out about why Medicaid expansion matters to the communities most impacted by the issue. Specifically, people in places like Mississippi, where 78% of those who would become eligible for health insurance with expansion are poor adults without children.
