Author Archives: Alexia Fernández Campbell

Alexia Fernández Campbell is a senior investigative reporter at the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, D.C., where she covers labor and inequality. She previously worked as a staff writer for Vox, The Atlantic, National Journal and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Her 2020 investigation of the federal government’s failure to respond to the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes prompted members of Congress to urge the U.S. Department of Justice to take action, leading to passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act. A documentary she co-produced with Scripps News, which revealed widespread sexual assault of student truck drivers, prompted a California law enforcement agency to reopen a rape investigation. The project was honored with a Gracie Award from the Alliance for Women in Media. Alexia’s investigative work has also been honored by the Society of Professional Journalists, The Association for Business Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association.

Alexia holds a bachelor's degree in mass communication from the University of Tennessee and a master's degree in journalism and public affairs from American University. She was awarded two data training fellowships from Investigative Reporters and Editors and was a fellow at American University's Investigative Reporting Workshop. She is Mexican-American-Brazilian and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
